Kristen is a bilingual mitigation specialist and sentencing advocate based in Carrboro, NC.  She is a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) with experience working in public defense settings both in the criminal and immigration practices.  She has expertise in trauma, mental health, substance use, intellectual disability, domestic and community violence, immigration stressors, and acculturation. She is available for private mitigation for capital and non-capital criminal cases at the pre-plea, sentencing and post conviction stages.

Experience

Kristen has spent her entire social work career integrated onto legal teams both at The Southern Poverty Law Center and The Bronx Defenders. Most recently she was the Senior  Criminal Defense Social Worker in the Homicide Practice at The Bronx Defenders.  She is fluent in Spanish.
